A Wrinkle in Time ended both gradually and abruptly, if that even makes sense. It was gradual in the way that you could tell what was coming next and it seemed slow to get there, but when you actually did get to the part, it went quite fast, making it abrupt. For example, when Meg went back to save Charles Wallace, you knew she would save him because that’s how most stories go, but when you finally got to the part where she did in fact save him, it was like she went in, got Charles and went out. I actually was not terribly impressed with the ending for the reasons stated above. It was quite predictable and you could tell exactly what was coming next. When you got there, it zipped through everything. Meg made it through the Black Thing with no problems and then saved Charles Wallace in a matter of a page. They then somehow ended up in their own garden. No complications. Also, the story ended with everyone living happily ever after, which in reality, doesn’t happen that often. It would’ve been nice to finish a story differently, where everything isn’t quite perfect because that causes question and suspense. If it ended with a cliffhanger, even if there wasn’t a sequel, it would leave some thoughts and unanswered questions for the readers to use their imaginations for. Instead, it was all wrapped up with no loose ends. If I could improve on the ending, I wouldn’t make it so predictable. The reader wouldn’t be able to tell what was coming next or I would lead them to think something was going to happen and then change it entirely. I could instead have IT put up more of a fight or maybe have Charles Wallace almost die, but in the end live. Maybe IT could turn all the citizens of Camazotz against Meg and they could be ITs army. I would also put more detail in instead of just rushing through things. I might include explanations, unlike the actual ending for everything “just happened because it happened.” Perhaps Meg and Charles Wallace are tessered out of Camazotz by Meg without her even knowing it. Maybe Charles has another unknown power. Lastly, everything may not end up being happily ever after. Wouldn’t it be interesting if the story ended with something more exciting that left questions? Possibly some people on Camazotz or even IT follow Meg and Charles Wallace back to Earth? Or the Mrs. W’s actually were “in league” with IT and have another plan cooked up? With a book like this, the possibilities are endless and I just wish the ending had represented that better.

I mean the Dark Thing, not the Black Thing.

Sorry again! I saw somewhere in the book it said the Black Thing and somewhere it said the Dark Thing. So for the last time, I mean the Black Thing, not the Dark Thing.

I agree with you guys too. I also found the ending of A Wrinkle In Time boring and quick. I wish that the author would have cut some parts out and add more to the ending.

I thinkt hat the ending was quite fast. I felt that madeline just wanted to get this book ever with and he hurried through the ending. She made the ending seem very fast and quick, in a matter of minutes meg saved chaes wallace and the book ended. I wish that the author could have made the ending more interesting and threw in a twist.(ie: maybe charles ends up accidently travelling to the planet where meg is) or something like that. I felt hat you knew exactly what was going to happen in the ending

I would give the ending of A Wrinkle In Time a 3/10. I found that the ending of A Wrinkle In Time short, confusing and boring. I wish that the author would have make A Wrinkle In Time shorter and add more to the ending. I found that the ending was confusing because the author made the ending so short, that at first, I didn't understand the ending. For example: Charles Wallace going back to normal, that was short. Aunt Beast coming into the story, that was short. Mr. Murry, Meg, Calvin and Charles Wallace making it home, that was short.

I agree with you when you say everything was short in the ending. I especially like how you gave examples of the book that you found short as it really added to your explanation. Instead of just giving a statement, you backed it up with evidence.

I give the ending a 5/10. I found it very boring, dull and nonchalant. The list of endings could go on and on but the author picked one of the most boring. They could have saved Charles and the twins and Meg's mother could have come. The beasts could have captured them or The ms.w's could have revealed they were working for IT. there are endless possibilities but the real reason I give it a 5 because it was a happy ending and the family was reunited and I am a sucker for happy endings.

The last chapter could have also lead to the ending because I also think the ending was quick.

For the book Wrinkle in Time, I would rate it 5/10. I found the ending of the book not that interesting but pretty boring and quick-paced. I think it was pretty obvious that Meg would go back to Camazotz, get Charles and go home. Bu there was nothing exciting in the end that would change my thinking. It was completely straight-forward on what was going to happen unlike the beginning of the book. Also the author did not really describe or tell anything to us if Meg once again had trouble getting through the tesseract. The author had wrote just a couple of words this time unlike the other times. If I had to improve some of the ending I would have put some kind of twist in when Charles Wallace was trying to get saved by Meg. Instead he almost controlled her brain and then something happened which made her get away from being controlled.

I really did not enjoy the ending for Wrinkle in Time. The ending was extremely predictable. Meg would get Charles Wallace back, IT would die, disappear or SOMETHING, and they would go back to Earth safe and sound. As I was reading, I really wanted something else to happen, because that is so cliche. It was also very abrupt. There were barely any details on how it happened, and the way it was written confused the heck out of me. It was extremely dull, and because of that, I will have to give the ending of Wrinkle in Time a 4/10.

I kind of liked the ending. It was great to know Charles was free of IT and the family was reunited, but we never found out where the Mrs. W's had to go. They were a big part of the book, yet they didn't say a proper good bye and we never found out where they had to go. It would have been nicer to know if they went back to being stars or had to help tesser on another mission. I understand why people think its predictable with the horrible event, lost father, taken brother, it's obvious everything will work out, but I'd rather know that everything worked out rather than have some twisted ending where they are stuck on camaztoz forever and will never see their family. If I had to re-write the ending I'd write it so that the family lands back in the laboratory at home, the Mrs. W's say that they have to help another family and Meg improves in school since her fathers back.

Overall, I did love the book, but I was a little disappointed of the ending of "A Wrinkle in Time". The ending was simple, beautiful, and very predictable. During the story, anyone could see that the father would be found, and that Charles Wallace would be saved after all. I for one, love happy endings, but I feel like this book ended with something that was not complete and did not fit the whole purpose of the book. They made the Meg defeat IT just with her emotions and with no other troubles at all. Yes, the author is trying to send a message out there for children that science or "Dark Things" can be defeated with love and strong emotions, but as a book that uses good against evil at every turn, the overly happy ending and joyful reunion suggests that all evil can be overcome. This, as we all know, is not true in the real world.
Especially on the ending chapters of the book in the planet Ixchel, Meg talks about the 3 Mrs. W's in time of need, and they just suddenly show up and help her? I think that this situation is very overrated, and suggests that once you beg hard enough for help, someone will just show up and let you depend on them. I think it would've been better if the author had let Meg decide and solve the problem independently instead of getting the 3 Mrs. W's to show up and help her. This would've at least put a twist to the storyline and made it much more exciting to see what Meg would've done without any help.

I believe that the ending of a Wrinkle in Time was a 5/10. It was both good and bad. The good part about it that I enjoyed was that it ended with Meg and Charles' bond. It showed how much they loved each other. For example, (I know I have said this many times before in other assignments but, it relates to this) Meg saved Charles through their love, because she reminded him of the bond they share. (Thats also why love is a really big theme in this novel.) I also didn't enjoy the ending, because like Tweety Bird said before, so much happened in the storyline, so that you expect the ending to be outstanding. I think what they should've done was saved most detail for the end. The author should have put in a twist to make the story more interesting. As Annie said before, it was too quick, it was just like Meg went in to save him then came out right after. She should have added a part like, all the people she ever loved were under the power of IT and even that would have made the ending more interesting. This is why I believe this book deserves a 5/10.

In my opinion the ending of A Wrinkle in Time was very poor in terms to others I have read from different books or stories. The author made it as if Meg was getting ready for the battle of her life when tesseribg to Camazotz so it consisted of mostly her thoughts and feelings which made me feel like: this is it, the final battle is coming, making me excited but when she went to face IT, the story became way too fast and quick. The battle of IT lasted way to quick, so I experienced not a lot of climax as I originally anticipated but the real thing that made me mad was when they got Charles Wallace home to earth. This is when they ended the story in a snap, they just went home everyone was excited and that was it nothing else happened. What I think would have improved the ending would be to add some more thrilling climax to the last battle because I feel that will make the reader think that they are part of the battle with Meg and also feel happy about winning so add more parts to that. For the ending, I suggest adding more information on what's to come like how the rest of the family responded to the arrival of their dad after years, or how Charles Wallace felt and so on. Also maybe how they are going to defeat the dark thing that will destroy the earth eventually...

I did not like the ending. It was kind of predictable and I did not feel satisfied. I was reading, very interested, and then the book just kind of left me with not a lot to think about. I thought, "Oh. I guess it's over now" It wasn't a ending in which I felt emotion. I would have liked to read something surprising such as a twist.

No, I absolutely hated the ending. It personally made me dislike this book even more than I did. I don't personally enjoy science fiction and I don't even remotely like romance the least bit. The ending was very mediocre. Somehow Meg survives the dark thing (IT) saves Charles Wallace (even though IT said, if it were killed or a link were broken the person would die) then they all magically teleport back to earth. To me it was like. Here's the book, now I am going to give you a giant cliff hanger. The way to fix the ending is by making a more of a smooth ending. Not like everything would be sudden. More like this happens and then later this happens. Also if someone where to die. I would honestly prefer that. I know it sounds sick but I think the ending would be much more dramatic if Calvin were to die or something.

What I think about Wrinkle in time at first was that it was really good for a school novel. I thought that Charlotte Doyle was going to stink but it blew my expactations out of the water. Now comparing these two books I relies that Wrinkle In Time was not the best as I first thought. One of the problems with it was it was too slow. There was way to much talking and not enough action as there could have been. Also it (heehee it get it?) hade a very small and stupid ending. Ya I agree it was cool that she used love to win over IT but I was so disappointed that it just ended. Like I hade the Eye Of The Tyger playing in my head when she was walking throught Camazotz by herself but then it just ends with her saving her brother.

Count me as someone who was thoroughly enjoying a well-performed audiobook version only to be turned-off by the overtly religious, overly-simplistic, and frankly, most offensively just a cop-out of an ending that I felt bad for subjecting my family to such bad writing. I'm sure Ms. L'Engle was a product of her Christian environment, but I wish I could find a wrinkle in time to travel back and tell her editor to push her mind and her pen to come up with a real ending.
