I would not like to live on planet Camazotz because you can't be differnt from everybody else, you do not have any freedom or freedom of speech and if you disobey IT, get sick or you are differnt you have to die. I don't know about you, but I do not want to die for being different. I think that Earth is a good planet to live on.

I wouldn't want to live on Camaotz because its lifeless. (in my opinion) But I would LOVE to go visit there. Just to see the people of Camazotz do what they are doing. Its like an army of local people (small families) all doing the same thing. It would soo... cool to witness the actual experience!

My opinion on a tesseract is that should never be made and no one should use it if it was made because you could tesser to the wrong place at the wrong time and be blamed for something you have not done. It is not a good idea because, like Meg's father, he travelled to Camzotz and got into trouble. In my opinion no one should have the privilege to use it because if it were in the wrong hands, for example a robber, the robber would tesser into peoples houses and steal your things. basically I just want to say NO ONE SHOULD EVER TESSER ANYWHERE OR YOU MIGHT GET IN TROUBLE.

What does everyone think of the tentacle monsters (Aunt Beast) that they met on the dark planet? Would you have trusted them? Why or why not?

I think the tentacles monsters appear scary and frightening, but only because they look different. They actually are caring creatures who want to help and do not want to cause harm. They are also very wise and have a lot of knowledge, considering they are blind. Although they may look cold and hard, they are soft and loving, easy to get along with and to talk to. I probably would have trusted them if I was in Meg, Calvin or Mr. Murry's position because it was the only hope of saving Meg and helping her recover from her encounter with the Dark Thing. After they showed that they really wanted to help and were also fighting the Dark Thing, I would trust them even more because I would realize that they are on my side and just saved Meg. Under other circumstances, let's say if I just landed on their planet and they weren't my last hope of being saved, I might've been a little more skeptical and probably wouldn't have trusted them so easily as I wouldn't have a reason to. It really depends on the scenario if I were to trust them or not.

I consider a perfect planet to be a planet with no war, all peace. A planet with a stable economy. One great leader that will never be rebelled against. All resources that are available to us are in great deposits. Sort of like Camazotz without IT and the unison.

For the second question: Maybe, and this is just an idea, the trios were subconsiously translating all the words they heard into english since they were said to have a special power inside their brain by the Mrs. Ws so there could be a chance that they had the power to understand alien languages. one example is the centaur like creatures on planet uriel and how charles was able to understand some of the words they exchanged but not all since it was a complex sort of language that have words human languages are not able to comprehend.

Question 1: A perfect planet for me, is a world without crime, with people you can always trust, a democracy, a strong leader that will never let you down and no lack of anything. (Example: water, gas, oil, electricity, etc...) There would still be laws and restrictions on the planet, but no one would break them or not follow them. There wouldn't be any people who would rebel against anyone and there would be peace and harmony.

How did IT arrive on Camazotz given its current state since its only a brain without any way of transportation (no body to travel in)? Also what do you think made IT come to the idea of trying to make everyone happy using unison?

I think IT arrived on Camazotz using a tesseract. Since he does have some sort of telekinesis, he would be able to control the tesseract. I think IT is trying to make everyone happy using unison because he sees that as a good idea. Since nobody rebelled, he wouldn't know if its a good idea or a bad idea.

Hmmm... An interesting theory, but what taught it the art of tesseracting? Because a brain at least to humans only gain knowledge and skills through experience or being taught, wait actually we can get skills through instincts so is it on instinct that allows it to teaser act and do other things?

I think that IT learnt the art of tesseracting from a descendant. He could be from the line of brains. (Perhaps the Brady Bunch???) He also could have learnt the art from an instruction manual that was attached to machine, but that's highly unlikely.

Since the 3 Mrs.W's are very old and know about the planet Camazotz, they could have helped IT get to Camazotz and taught him the art of tesseracting. They could have been close acquaintances way back then and helped each other out. Maybe, IT wanted to have a dictatorship where nobody went against him, so he hypnotized the people on Camazotz so they would obey him and all of his rules. If people were hypnotized and had no emotions, and they knew of no other way to live, so they think that that is the perfect way of living, so they don't complain.

Luigi, maybe at the time the Mrs Ws were unknown to the fact that IT was going to be a terrible monster that would cause pain and misery so they probably saw no harm in teaching IT tesseracting.
Cynthia

Maybe a scientist created a big brain and programmed a system to make the brain a dictator! The scientist might have recruited a group of people, built their homes and programmed them to all listen to the big brain.
So in the end It might not actually be IT'S fault for his actions, because theirs a scientist behind all of it.

Well maybe the 3 w's tought IT about tesseracting so Meg's father would have a chance of leaving Camazotz. Some times you go soooo deep into the book that these questions come up and you don't have answers. errrrr...... I wish the author could post stuff on the blog too!

This is a response to Luigi's question, but there is no "reply" option for the question.
If the Mrs. W's did in fact teach IT the art of tesseracting, maybe they did it without knowing what IT had in store for the citizens of Camazotz. Perhaps IT told the Mrs. W's that he was going to create a perfect planet, but this planet needs the ability to tesser in order to fit his vision. The Mrs. W's could've thought they were doing good by helping IT and teaching IT how to tesseract, but they were actually helping IT control every mind on Camazotz and put every person to come to the planet in danger. Also, maybe IT hypnotized the Mrs, W's and ordered them to teach IT how to tesser. IT could've already had the hypnosis power and asked the Mrs. W's to teach him, but they refused so IT hypnotized them so they were under his control and had to teach him. This is only a possibility if the Mrs. W's did teach IT the art of tesseracting.

Your pretty much asking which came first; the chicken or the egg? He could of possibly used telekinesis to control someone. Like what happened with the brain switching, he could of controlled another person body to utilize the features such as eyes or ears.

Insteresting theory Luigi! I understand what you are saying. But I think that IT was a normal human being who was born with a conjoined twin. You know those mothers who have twins and the are not fully developed so they are joined. Well I think they were joined together with their brains and one twin died but IT got the other brain attached to his brain. That's why he is soo powerfull. Then he realized that his brain was to big for his body, so he killed everyhting but his nervous system and his brain.

Meg learnt: 1) the value of individuality and 2) to accept that not everything can be understood rationally. First, she learnt to overcome her desire for conformity and appreciate her own uniqueness as an individual. In the beginning of the book, Meg felt awkward and out of place at her high school. She was involved in frequent fights with her peers and was sent to the principal's office for her misbehavior. Meg told her mother that she hates being an oddball and wished she could just pretend she was like everyone else. Camazotz, then, with its rows of identical houses and identical human beings, parodies her extreme desire for conformity. Only after she understands the evil of this planet did she realize the value of being a unique individual. The book celebrates human creativity and individuality, hailing as heroes the greatest creative geniuses in the arts and sciences including Einstein, Bach, da Vinci, and Shakespeare. Another important lesson that Meg must learn is that she cannot know everything. In the beginning of the book, Meg insists that nothing remain unexplained. For example, when she met Calvin, she immediately asked her mother what she thinks of him; she wanted an instant and definitive answer. Her mother urged her to be patient, but Meg couldn't wait for opinions to form gradually. Meg wanted to comprehend everything around her all at once. However, in the course of her travels, she slowly came to appreciate her mother's words of wisdom: "Just because we don't understand doesn't mean an explanation doesn't exist." She accepted that the musical dance of the creatures on Uriel is beautiful even though she cannot speak their language; she accepted that the Black Thing is evil even though she didn't really understand what it was. When she ultimately confronted IT on her return visit to Camazotz, she at last appreciates the dangers of a mind bent on total understanding, on definitive and authoritative explanations: such a mind becomes robot-like, mechanical, and unfeeling. Meg's rejection of IT is thus also a rejection of the need for total understanding of the world around her.

At first I would be kind of scared, because in the book, when they entered IT's home, they were sort of being controlled and being put into rhythm. I wouldn't want to become one of the hypnotized people on Camazotz. I would also be stunned because IT is just a giant throbbing brain. If I had a tesseract, then I would probably leave the planet, but if I didn't, then I would just try to run away.

I would probably also be scared because it's not everyday that you see a giant brain controlling an entire planet. I would be shocked and dumdfounded, but I would also be trying very hard to fight the rhythm so I wouldn't be hypnotized. I would like to say that I would stay and fight it, but I actually would probably run away for fear I would go under IT's spell. Possibly after, I would create a plan to return and defeat IT.

It doesn't have arms and legs so defeating him wouldn't be so hard

Great question Pandora! First of all I would never ever ever try o meet IT in person because I would be so paranoid of getting hypnotized. But if I had to, I would put extra, extra covered eyglasses so I can not open my eyes but only talk to IT. I would probably do what Charles Wallace and Meg did and distract my brain, preventing it to start thinking and operating in rhythm. I could say things that would close my brain so IT could not enter and control me. This strategy may not work, but I don't think there is a way that someone can face IT without there being a big chance that they could be hypnotized.

Then, if the people on Camaztoz break the pattern, IT sends them to get shocked. If IT was already controlling Earth, I wouldn't know about it so I wouldn't be able to do anything. We all would see no difference in our lives as our brains would be controlled by IT. If someone from a different planet came like Meg, Charles Wallace and Calvin did, maybe they could save us by pulling us out of the trance and allowing us to be ourselves again. Also, if someone on Earth could feel IT coming, they could warn others so everyone could stand up to IT. If that's not possible, this person may be able to defy IT and think of a plan to rid the rest of the citizens of Earth from IT's control. The most likely result would be all of us obeying IT because we are hypnotized.

No, I don't think Meg's actions were reasonable considering the circumstances. We are not allowed to speak to our parents that way, even when we are feeling emotional. Meg's emotions were running high and she was upset becaue her father had been gone for a while and he couldn't do much to help them get Charles Wallace back, but that still doesn't give her the excuse to be rude and ungrateful. Yes, they were in a tough situation and yes, Mr. Murry wasn't doing much to help them get out of it, but the fact was he was unable to and didn't have the power. Meg should've understood that he was still her same old father with no super power or ablility to do things that humans cannot do. After not seeing your father for a few years, you don't want your first meeting to be one to make you wish you never went to find him in the first place. In the end, Meg realized she was wrong and apologized, but she should've been in more control of her emotions in the first place.

No, I don't think it was ALL Mr. Murry's fault for leaving Charles behind on Camazotz. It is his fault in the way that he was the one to leave Charles there and tesser somewhere else. There isn't really anyone else to blame, so I gues you could blame the circumstances. If they pulled Charles away, it could hurt him. If they destroyed IT, it could hurt him. If they stayed, all four of them would fall under IT's control. It was really there only safe option, to tesser off Camazotz and go to another planet, leaving Charles Wallace behind. Also, it's not like they were planning on just leaving him there as they were going to go back and save him and eventually did. Overall, Mr. Murry and the circumstances share the blame.
