The difference between unnatural and uncommon is, unnatural is odd and abnormal. Uncommon is out of the ordinary or unusual. Charlotte's behaviour is more uncommon than unnatural. Unnatural is when it's abnormal and just doesn't seem right. Well, women could have done similar things that Charlotte has done, but it's not unnatural, it's UNCOMMON!! It doesn't occur or happen a lot, but it still does happen what Charlotte was doing. Its not unnatural for a woman to wear mens clothes, it's just uncommon, it happens, but you don't see it very often. Women can do a mens job, (construction, longshoreman, builder etc...) but it's just not common.

You say that uncommon is to be out of the ordinary, but you also say that unnatural is odd or abnormal. So how is something out of the ordinary if it isn't odd or unusual since that's the only way to be uncommon.

I think there is a huge difference between unnatural and uncommon. The biggest difference is that unnatural is for a girl (Charlotte) to do something that would be out of her nature or that another girl couldn't do. For example if Charlotte could stick out her tounge 2 ft farther than anyone else. That's unnatural. Uncommon is when someone who can do something but it usally not done. A example would be Charlotte joining the crew. Girls don't usally join crews but girls CAN join crews.

Great example for unnatural. Sticking out your tongue 2 ft further than anyone else would certainly be against the laws of nature.

Uncommon means :- something that isnt usual.
Unnatural means :- something that is artificial or isnt naturally usual
What Charlotte did wasnt artificial, it was just unusual. Charlitte didnt do something that couldnt have exsisted in nature, it was just uncommon for little girls to be able to do that.
Ift would have ony been unnatural if a little baby were to do that. Charlotte was capable of doing that, babies cant even talk.

Unnatural means it isn't natural and its different or odd. Uncommon means that it is out of the blue or ordinary. Charlotte Doyle's actions were uncommon because anyone could had done what she did but for Charlotte Doyle, it was unnatural because you would not expect a person like Charlotte Doyle do what she did.

Uncommon is a better way of saying it because uncommon means that majority of people don't usually act like this but that doesn't mean what they're doing doesn't come naturally to them...because you can feel something but for you to show it is up to you. (For example, you can feel anger but choose not to show it because you have guests over at your house.) So something could be natural to feel but very uncommon for people to show they feel like that.

Uncommon: Something that is not usual
Unnatural: Contrary to normal; artificial
What Charlotte did was uncommon, not unnatural. True, women back then did not normally want to become a sailor, but Charlotte felt it was necessary to fill Zachariah's position. Therefore it is NOT unnatural, it is uncommon.

Uncommon: Out of the ordinary, unusual.
Unnatural: Not being in accordance with nature or consistent with a normal course of events.
Uncommon is a better description of Charlotte's behavior because what she did is uncommon (joining the crew). It's not unnatural because Charlotte only did it cause she knew that it was necessary that someone filled in Zachariah's position and she though she should do it. therefore it's not unnatural but uncommon.

The differance between uncommon and unatural is that uncommon is something thts diffrent from other things like Charlotte doing something no other girl would do. Though unatural is something that is just way diffrent from every thing else like some guy having long hair down to there shoulders like a guys which is unatural.

My definition of uncommon is something that is not found very often; something rare and out of the ordinary; the act of not being usual. My definition of unnatural is something that goes against what is natural; something that defies the laws of nature; the act of not being natural. Uncommon is something not found regularly while unnatural means to be contradicting to the way things are found in a natural state. Something as simple as diamonds are uncommon because they are very rare and hard to find. Having more than four limbs is unnatural because every person is supposed to have no more than four according to nature. Uncommon is a better description of Charlotte’s behaviours than unnatural because her actions were not commonly done by someone like her (young, female), but she was still able to do them. This leads to the whole “girls can do anything boys can do.” Charlotte’s first uncommon behaviour was joining the crew. Now this really was never seen at this time because those kinds of ships rarely even had passengers, never mind ones who became crew members. Yet, she still joined the crew. Just because it isn’t seen often doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Next, Charlotte stood up to Captain Jaggery. Crew members are not allowed to speak to their captains the way she did, but she proved that capability decides whether something is unnatural or not. Charlotte was fully capable of standing up and talking back to Captain Jaggery, even if she was the first. Last, Charlotte ran away from home. No teenage girl had probably ever thought of joining a sailing crew, but it somehow came naturally to Charlotte when she made her decision and physically completed her task. This definitely shows how uncommon her behaviour was, but it also proves that what she did was nature.

Unnatural, to me, means to do some thing that nature wasn't or shouldn't allow to the earth or its organisms, like you're creating a path in life that was never supposed to be treaded on. Unusual means something that isn't the most common thing or it is rare, like there is a path in nature but few people ever cross it, it is still there though and nature created it. Charlotte is more suited to be called unusual because although in the standards of high class families it's not the correct path for women to be doing crew work so to them it is unnatural, though in the world it's fully natural for any human, male or female to do crew work although it is rare for women to do ship work at that time making it unusual. An example of something unnatural would be having tentacles instead of fingers, for humans, since nature didn't intend for that mishap so it must have been man that did it, while an unusual occurrence is when someone is faster than other people at running, it's fully natural, nothing genetically modified, but its not common so it is unusual.

Doing something unnatural is doing something different than everyone else. Not Doing something with the normal or expected human behaviour or feelings. (Not wanted as much)
Everyone in charlottes time thinks is unnatural for a young girl to dress in a crews outfit, cut her hair and do a crews work.
Doing something uncommon is doing something unexpected. It's rare, unusual and It can be a good thing.
People think charlottes actions are uncommon(rare) to happen nowadays, but everyone also thinks her actions were very brave( a good thing).
I think it's a a good way to call charlottes actions uncommon rather than unusual because they were an act of bravery. She proved a lot of people wrong and brought up the issue of women's rights. Her actions were unnatural to the people of her time, but they were brave and just 'uncommon' to us.
