I think a class election was a better way to develop your speaking skills because we had to say a lot of fun and engaging stuff instead of a normal speech were you just talk and don't say anything exciting.

Yes, it was a much better way of developing your speaking skills because speech fest topics are usually quite boring and class election speeches really involved us and what we wanted to make our grade 7 year a memorable one. Class election speeches were just for our class and not for the entire school (which includes very young kids who might not be interested in what the grade 7 kids have to speak about) and so it was easier to talk about a subject that engaged all of us grade 7 students. Hagrid, you are a great teacher!

I'm not sure because I didn't run in the class elections. If I was there than I would. The other things you make us stand up and present was a good speaking skill. While I was presenting my speech I was a little nervous and I was stolling by drinking water.

A class election was a WAY better way to develop our speaking skills than a speech-fest. In a class election you can write an election speech about yourself and your qualities, and it's actually relevant to yourself and others. In a speech-fest, you write about some random topic, and no one is really going to care about what you're talking about. When you are presenting an election speech, you are talking (in my case) to your class. In a speech-fest you are usually talking to a whole school. In a class election, you can relate to the people's problems and can help them. I have hated speech-fests ever since I was in Grade 3 and had to write one for the first time. So I think class elections are better and way more useful. In an election speech we can talk about ourselves and the people in our class will understand what we are saying. That's not the case in a speech-fest.

We can also use different ways to express our voice, but in a speech fest, you just talk in a monotone way. In an election speech, you can add expression to your voice, and that will help you later on in life, if you're going to end up being a public speaker or something.

I liked the election speeches because they were easier. I wasn't scared about speaking in front of all my classmates because the topic i was speaking about was fun and i cared about it. In previous years i have stressed an incredible amount over speech fest projects. This year i didn't have to stress as much and i had a lot more fun speaking to my classmates.
I think the election speaking helped more because it made me feel more comfortable speaking. I knew what i was talking about and wasn't stuck with a bring topic.

I think the Class Election was a better way to develop our public speaking skills better than being in the speech fest, because we were able to write a speech, performing it to class, and also have responsibility to take on a class to prepare us to be able to take care of our class (being a teacher) or taking care of our children in the future.
