In part one, Charlotte was very needy and reliant on others. She needed Barlow to carry her luggage and Captain Jaggery to keep her under his protection. She was cared for and tended to by Zachariah. Also, she was very gullible and narrow - minded. Charlotte believed every word Captain Jaggery said because he looked professional and seemed nice. She ignored Zachariah and the crew's warnings and jeopardized her own safety and the safety of others. Now, in part two, Charlotte is much more independent and has had a taste of real life, one where she doesn't have access to luxuries and doesn't get everything she wants. She also sees who her real friends on the ship are and has completely abandoned Captain Jaggery. Charlotte has developed crew - like characteristics, physically, mentally and emotionally. Physically, her body is adapting to her everyday work and is becoming tougher, plus she is getting used to the lack of sleep and energy recharge time. Charlotte is definitely getting stronger and is way more useful than in part one where she couldn't and wasn't willing to do work around the ship. Mentally, she has the mindset of a crew member, doing anything and everything to get the job done, even if it means going to extremes. Charlotte has also learned a lot from the other members of the crew, involving strategies and methods of completing her tasks efficiently and painlessly. Emotionally, she is stronger and more confident. Charlotte no longer backs down and speaks her mind. She is willing to stand up to Jaggery and call him a "coward" and a "fraud", something polite, proper Charlotte who thought the world of Captain Jaggery would've never done in part one. She doesn't need a comforting shoulder or even a comfy bed. Her mind is set on being a crew member, pulling her weight and defying Captain Jaggery. I absolutely admire Charlotte more now than in part one because she is stronger in all aspects. She isn't a so - called "lady" anymore, but a sailor. Her values of primness and properness have changed and now she values hard work and perseverance, both of which she had no need to value or even experience back home in Liverpool. Most importantly, she is more confident. She believes she is capable of a lot more than her and others thought she was. Charlotte will not tolerate being pushed around and told what to do, even if it does mean behaving in an "un" lady - like manner because she doesn't care. Do you know what I say? I say good for her!

Yes, who cares. It's good that she's become the person she has.

Charlotte Doyle has changed a lot from part 1 to part 2. In part 1 she needed people to do everything for her. Like Charlotte Doyle needed Barrow to carry her suit case for her because it was to heavy for her. She had her maid at the school pack her suit case and wrap everything in paper. She needed Captain Jaggery to protect her and needed Zachariah to care about her. Charlotte Doyle also sort of judged people without really getting to know them, she thought that the captain was a nice and true gentleman all because he was nice to her, when really he is a cruel man. Charlotte Doyle thought that Zachariah was a strange man, when really he is a nice person and friend to have. In part 2 she is actually living life, knowing that life is not always fair and not living off daddy's money. Charlotte Doyle now knows that Captain Jaggery is very unfair and does not trust him. She is also not living the princess life, like not getting enough sleep, not having a soft bed in a room, not having proper meals and so Charlotte Doyle is getting more tough everyday. I admire her more now because before every though she was nice, had manners and gave the man an extra coin for carrying her suit case, she seemed like a brat because she got everything she wanted. Charlotte Doyle is also not being such a lady and acting like a princess.

I agree. She acted a lot like a brat. I prefer this Charlotte more than the other as well.

In part one, Charlotte was very ladylike, proper, inquisitive, reliant and didn't really listen to others. Charlotte was a very proper and ladylike person, with white gloves, fancy dresses, well kept hair, well polished shoes and so on. She acted like a grown up and always tried to be more mature for her age. Charlotte is only a 13 year old girl, but she acts, speaks and thinks like a 20 year old woman. (Or at least she wants to.) Charlotte was very inquisitive and curious about a lot of things. When she was at the docks with Mr. Grummage, she was asking tons of questions like "What is the name of the ship I'm to sail on?" or "Is she British or American?" or "How many masts does it have?" I think she just asked questions that didn't exactly matter or was of no importance to her. She probably just asked them to seem more mature. Maybe to know about the ship even though it didn't really matter. Charlotte was also very reliant on others. She had to have someone carry her bags to the boat and have someone pamper her and tend to her every need on the Seahawk. Charlotte didn't really listen to others properly. She paid the peasant on the docks an extra shilling to carry her bags, even though it wasn't necessary. She also didn't listen to Captain Jaggery about going into the Forecastle or didn't listen to Zachariah about the dangers of the crew and Captain Jaggery. In part two, Charlotte is wiser, less used to being pampered and is being more independent. Charlotte sometimes knows the right decisions to make. For example, she told Captain Jaggery about the round robin, like he said she should if she saw one. And, Charlotte decided to join the crew which was a pretty good decision. On the Seahawk, Charlotte doesn't have access to luxuries she used to have, such as 3 meals a day, a comfy room, a full night of sleep, personal assistants and clean clothes. She is learning how to live the life of a sailor and that is making her become a tougher, well built girl. Charlotte is also being more independent. She isn't relying on Captain Jaggery to keep her safe, she is taking matters into her own hands by joining the crew to try to keep herself safe. Charlotte also isn't going to Zachariah for help anymore because he's dead. He was one of the only people on the Seahawk who genuinely cared about her and helped her. Now, Charlotte has to fix her own problems and help herself in hard times. I totally admire Charlotte more now than before. Charlotte is now a rough and tough girl who is joining the crew. Before, she was weak and timid. Now, Charlotte is a more confident and independent girl who isn't really scared of anything now. She overcame her fear of the crew and is now working hard and persevering to get to her goal. She is sort of breaking the law of not acting like a woman should. She is wearing dirty ragged clothes, and is not acting very ladylike. Charlotte is pushing against the limits and is better than ever.

In part one, Charlotte was very proper. Her mind was set on being ladylike and proper. She had the manners, the style, she even had dresses to wear on a ship. She acts older than she really is, which results in her befriending Jaggery. She insists on being polite, for instance, when the man was loading her trunks onto the ship, she offered an extra shilling because she thought he did a good job. In part two, Charlotte became an immature "man" as Jaggery would refer to it when she joined the crew to get back at Jaggery. She has put herself into hard times and is now forced to work as hard and even harder now that Captain Jaggery hates her, and she gets a lack of sleep, not enough meals, but she has earned the respect of the crew. She has also earned my respect, and that's why I like her better in part two. She is standing up for herself, and is not afraid of Captain Jaggery (or heights, for that matter) and is grinding into the hard labor that no 13 year old girl should be doing.

It's great she's standing up for herself. Like where would she be if she didn't?

Charlotte was a very well brought up girl. She was independent, gracious, respectful, civilized, mannerly. She was everything good. Everything perfect. She was very mature. Never acted foolish. She needed to live up to her parents expectations. She was the "good girl".
Now Charlotte is the complete opposite. She is nowhere near perfect. She lives like she wants to. She doesn't need to reach those expectations anymore. She had made real friends who are like her family, the crew. Even her own family probably wasn't as kind as the crew has been to her. They are a family now. I prefer this Charlotte better. This one is more lively, immature, and careless. That's what a real human being is like. I admire Charlotte a lot more now than before.

As RRSB said Charlotte was very posh, polite mature and mannered kind of girl. She always respected others and never let her parents down. She was a good-two-shoes.
Now Charlote is very rude, disrespectful and unpolite girl. She has turned into one of the members on the crew. She has made new friends an habits. This is the real Charlotte. Before she was forced to be someone different. Now she gets the freeom she deserves and now you see the real Charlotte. I like the new Charlotte because she makes mistakes, is a little careless and slobby and is more energetic. She is more like kids our age. She expresses her childlike features.
It is the same transition from kids to teeager. You become more lazy and little more careless but you gain back all of the good stuff in around grade 10, 11 and 12.

I think I like Charlotte Doyal better in part 2 than in part 1. In part 1 she had to have others do everything for her because apparently she was in a higher class then the rest and should not be working. She was in a very ladylike manner and was very mature for her age. She had to have the crew members do everything for her because she had never done it before. When she had to wash her on clothes was when she realized how hard it is then just sitting around. In part 2 she joined the crew and realized what life was like when she actually had to work to earn money and live a life instead of others doing it for her. Since she had joined the crew and said she would help out on the ship she actually has to help out and do all the work that is given to her by them. She has completely lost her ladylike manner but she has probably earned the respect of the crew even more and they probably have higher expectations in her now that she has proven that she too can do all the things that they do. So I think Charlotte Doyal in part 2 has really proven her real self instead of being someone somebody else wants her to be.

Charlotte has changed a lot after part 1 and in part 2 Charlotte joins the crew and she realizes what life is like when she actually has to do work to earn money. Since she had joined the crew and said she would help out on the ship she actually has to help out and do all the work that is given to her by them. She completely lost her ladylike manner but she probably earned respect from the crew even more now that they know she has gone against the captain.
Charlotte in part 2 has totally changed from being ladylike to living in the real world (so by real world I mean working hard, earning money and just working a job)
