I think Charlotte is more mature than Meg. When Charlotte went into the crew's cabin to get a new needle for Ewing, she was mature enough to not be scared of the crew members. When Charlotte saw the pistol in Ewing's chest, she was a little bit scared, but she stayed calm and didn't freak out. And when she found the Round Robin, she didn't make a sound, she acted as if she didn't see anything. Charlotte told Captain Jaggery about all the things she saw, just like she was supposed to. Meg probably would have been too scared and shocked to do so.

Charlotte Doyle is more mature than Meg. Charlotte does have a lot of patience and is very quiet when she finds that something is wrong such as seeing the round robin in the forecastle. I think Meg always needs the help of someone to tell her whats wright and wrong because I do not really think she makes good choices herself. If she had found about that round robin I think she would have given it away by her face expressions that she had saw it. Charlotte is able to stay calm and figure things out before actually going and telling somebody else and then in the end might not be true such as when she went to go get her clothes and thought she saw a person. Where as Meg, might not have thought the problem through and went to tell someone and maybe she turned out to be wrong in the end. Charlotte is also more sensible for her age depending in the years she grew up because by then girls were to be treated as ladies. Meg's book is written a bit later so she was not treated a lot like a lady so she could enjoy her childhood more.

I also agree that Charlotte is more mature than Meg because Charlotte is more lady like and very well manned unlike Meg who is very impatient and very stubborn who is very different form Charlotte.
Also referring to what happened in the forecastle Charlotte was some how able to stay very calm and keep her expression hidden so they crew could not see when she sighted the gun in Ewins chest. Also when she flipped the table and saw the round robin and did show the slightest sign of awe. If Meg did that she probably would have freaked and screamed and she probably would have gotten caught.

Charlotte Doyle is more mature than Meg Murry. Charlotte is very prim and proper, which makes her act older then she is and it said at the beginning she dresses like a young woman as well (bonnet, skirts, high-button shoes, white gloves), which makes her look older as well. Her attitude towards things is also more mature than Meg's. When Charlotte got on the boat, she was skeptical of the crew and unimpressed with the accommodations, but she has tried to make the best of it by getting to know the crew and captain and by adapting to the overall state of the ship. Meg is very negative and thinks that everything bad happens to her. She doesn't even make an effort to make the best of something. Charlotte's approach is much more grown-up than Meg's childish approach. Charlotte has better control of her feelings as well. She doesn't show it when she is frightened or shocked as she hides it, which can be helpful on the Seahawk. Meg is very expressive. When she is angry, you know she's angry because she is rude and you know she's sad because she cries. Charlotte can hold herself together better than Meg can. Lastly, Charlotte thinks things through before acting, while Meg acts on impulse. When Charlotte found out about the round robin and pistol, she took a while to make a decision about telling Captain Jaggery before she actually went and did it. When the boy said something mean about Charles Wallace, Meg acted without thinking and got herself into trouble. Charlotte is more mature because she thinks before acting.

I like how you added things about how Charlotte's more mature not only mentally, but physically too. Also, you stated how Meg is very negative and Charlotte actually got to know the crew and captain to get a better understanding of them.

I really like how you said she thinks before acting, because she does; she thinks twice. She wouldn't want to do anything foolish however at times it just happens.

Charlotte Doyle is definitely way more mature than Meg Murray. Charlotte Doyle can handle being the only girl on a ship with a bunch of men and not freak out about it. Charlotte is also so brave for being the only girl on the ship and wander around the ship by herself. Charlotte Doyle is also brave enough to tell and talk to Captain Jaggery about the things that happen and about the things she sees on the Seahawk and look out for herself. Unlike Meg Murray who probably would loose it and would attempt to leave the Seahawk.

I definetly think that Charlotte is more mature than Meg. Charlotte is a very classy, mannered and preppi sort of girl. She is always polite and respectful. She also aims on keeping her family (particularly her father) proud and never letting them down, no matter where they are. On the contrary, Meg is a very self-consious and negative girl. She is always putting herself down. In chapter 9 Charlotte finds out about the round robin and weapons but takes a while to make a decision if she should tell captain jaggery or not. If Meg was in that situation she would have panicked and done all sorts of crazy things. Also when Charlotte went to get Ewing's needle she came across the round robin. Instead of panicking or showing weird or shocked expressions she kept a normal look on her face. By acting un-suspicious she was able to leave without leaving a doubt in the crew's mind. If Meg was in that situation she would have freaked and ran to captain jaggery for protection.

I agree because if Meg was in this type of situation she would be
frustrated and wont focus and would do anything to leave the problem. I agree with Cookie Monster because if Meg was in that situation when finding the pistol and round robin Meg would've showed emotion on her face and actually blabber to the crew of what she found. When Charlotte was in that situation she was in a normal state and acted as if everyone trips don't pay any attention to me.

Both of these girls are mature in their own way and need some increase in certain areas to be without a doubt mature. Let's analyze Meg first, the low self esteemed, stubborn and antisocial teenager, first. The most obvious trait about meg is that she always acts and looks out of line, such as talking back to her teachers and principals like a child would to their sibling or mom, and that is the type of trait which most people like to judge when it comes to the topic of maturity, their actions and looks towards others but what people a lot of times miss is their thoughts because maturity, growing up, isn't always based on the outside but also on the inside which is also very important. Meg stands up for what she thinks is right and won't back down just because some grown up and also is able to make her own decisions as a muture person, or adult, should. Now lets move on to the high class, lady-like girl named Charlotte. Charlotte is polar opposites when it comes to meg, she is dressed very nicely, acts respectfully at all times, and is well mannered towards others which because of those attributes causes her to be titled as mature but, just as I have said before there is also the inner thoughts to be aware of before people are able to make their choices; Charlotte said herself that she has never lived without guidance from elders so she has never really made her own decisions and stuck to them so, at least to me, that is a little childish also because of not being dependent she got into this whole mess of being into the boat even if she is didn't want to since her "follow everyone's orders even if my own well being is indanger because that's how ladies are supposed to be" is in play. I find it pretty difficult to say which is more mature than who, for they both have ups and downs so I'd say their at a tie since Meg is mature when it comes to indepenance and Charlotte to looks and appearance.

I like how you stated how both are mature and their flaws in maturity, it doesn't show a bias towards one character, even if you do like one better.

Charlotte is more mature than meg. Charlotte is more of a lady. She dresses proper, has her hair done nicely and uses good manners. Meg is more modern and uses slang, dresses like girls today and acts like a regular teenager. Charlotte writes In a diary everyday just as her father constructed. She says "sir" and refuses to wear pants and a blouse because its not "lady like". Meg acts rude to her elders and thinks bad of herself. Charlotte makes better choices (telling the captain about the pistol and round robin) . Charlotte is also more polite. She fetched the needle, reads her book to others and reads the bible to the crew. I don't think charlottes plan to take the side of the crew and the captain worked very well.... But she is still very intelligent. Meg is impatient and doesn't want to do the tasks that need to be done before she can see her father. I also find that meg complains more than Charlotte.

I wouldn't say that she doesn't care about her appearance since she stresses a lot about how presentable she will look to the captain since she always wants to look proper, neat or like a true lady should as Charlotte said before she even made a plan to save one dress for her arrival so she can give her family the proudness of having a daughter that hasn't forgotten how to be proper when she was alone with a ship full of shabby crew members and one gentlemen.

I think that Charlotte is more mature than Meg. She is always focused on looking ladylike in front of Captain Jaggery. When Zachariah handed her the blouse and trousers, she firmly told herself that she was being unladylike and took them off immediately. Also it mentioned that she straightens and combs her hair every morning and night for 20 minutes, which is quite extreme for being on a ship.

Charlotte is definately more sphisticated and mature than meg. Charlotte is very calm. Even though she saw a person being shot, clues to danger (the robin), and many other disturbing things, she still stayed calm. At the time of charlotte doyle, girls were expected to act lady-like and mature. Charlotte was taught that girls needed to be sophisticated. She even wears sophisticated things(bonnet covering her hair, white gloves,a skirt). Meg is very weird. She didnt have to be sophisticated, her parents let her be herself.
In conclusion, Charlotte is way more mature than Meg Murry.

I thunk Charlotte is more mature. Charlotte acts like a complete lady and meg just acts like normal teenager. If Meg had been in Charlotte's situation when she was getting the needle, Meg would have freaked. Charlotte has the ability to control her emotions which is a thing that comes with maturity. Charlotte also stayed calm when she saw the round robin and the crew member making a sign as if to kill her. In both of those cases, Meg would have freaked which would cause a uproar on the boat which could result in bloodshed.

I agree, no doubt. It's crystal clear that Charlotte Doyle is more mature. Charlotte is more mature since she knows how to make her decisions even if they maybe wrong she doesn't need someones help. However Meg is always struggling to make her decisions and always needs help. Also since Charlotte Doyle takes place long before A Wrinkle in time so there are many differences between the ways they act. Meg is very insecure, stubborn, impatient, and gets angry fast while Charlotte is completely the opposite. She is not stubborn or impatient, and neither does she get angry a lot. Charlotte may be a bit foolish sometimes, but she is definitely more mature than Meg in all ways.

I agree that Charlotte Doyle is more mature than Meg. Firstly, Meg probably wouldn't be able to last 2 months without her family with no women aboard this ship. Also, Charlotte shows maturity through her appearance. She is very ladylike and mannerly, as with Meg, she has a really high temper and is usually getting in to trouble. Charlotte is also really good at hiding what she feels. Except, Meg always shows what she feels, in the book it even says "I wish I was more like mother, in hiding my emotions." Also, Charlotte always what does she is told and usually never disobeys. Even though, Charlotte is more mature through her personality, it also makes a difference in the time period they are in. It is because, Meg is in the century we are in and it doesn't matter whether you're ladylike or not, but in the 1800's they HAD to be ladylike and mature if they were woman. So in my opinion, Charlotte Doyle is more mature that Meg Murry.

It is beyond no reasonable doubt that Charlotte Doyle is more mature than Meg Murry. In the first few chapters, we discover that Charlotte dresses much like a lady with white gloves, lace dresses, bonnets and so forth. This makes her seem very proper and high class as well. We also learn in the book that Charlotte is one that always does what she is told, never thinking for herself. For example, Charlotte tried to do the right thing by telling Captain Jaggery as she thought it would've been responsible of her to report what she had seen on the ship. She is also very capable of calming herself, being independent, and thinking things through carefully, which makes her seem much like an adult without any family around. For example, like the time she had seen the carved head and face above while she had been collecting her clothes, she went back into her room and thought the situation through while trying to calm herself down and decide what she had to do. Charlotte is much more polite than Meg, as Charlotte always talks formally to her elders or anyone else around her, even if she does not exactly like them. Meg, who is very rude to teachers, it makes her seem that she is very childish and is not able to control her attitude. Charlotte also has proper manners, saying "Thank you," or "You're welcome," very frequently while talking to others.
