Some things I know about the 1900's are that they had no electricity, no tv, radio, airplanes, cars? I don't think I've read any book that took place in the 1900's besides Charlotte Doyle. I've seen the movie Dark Shadows, which took place in the 1900's in the beginning.

You mean the 1800s. You are correct to say there was no tv, radio, airplanes or cars. Electricity appeared very late in the 1800s, well after the time of Charlotte Doyle.

A few things that come to mind when topic 1800s come up is that slavery was still in North America, Henrietta Tubman was alive, Abraham Lincoln was the president around that time, during that time United States had their Civil war, slavery also ended in that time. Some book and movies are the saga of larten crepsley, prates of the Caribbean ( I think), and Romeo and Juliet (I think).

As Sherlock Holmes said, the 1800's didn't have nearly as many luxuries compared to today, with no electricity, TV, or cars. Many families owned and worked on farms to make a living. In this century, the morse code, safety pin, and zipper were invented. I have read adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Les Miserables, and Moby Dick, all of which were written in the 1800's. Other famous books of that time include Frankenstein, Dracula, Wuthering Heights, Little Women, A Christmas Carol, and Alice in Wonderland. I have seen the movies Miss Potter, Oliver Twist, and Anne of Green Gables. Great Expectations, Peter Pan, and The Secret Garden are all based in the 1800's as well.

I am pretty sure that there were not a lot of electronics in the 1800's such as t.v.s, phones, computers, radios and etc. They did not have electricity. Basically all the things we have now, they did not have with them. Books from the 1800's that I have read are Les Miserable and the one we are reading now, Charlotte Doyal.

Les Miserables (Jean Val Jean) is a good example. It comes from about the same time period as Charlotte Doyle. Making connections to Les Miserables is a good way to understand what life must be like for many of the crew members (especially back home).

In the 1800's, almost all electronics did not exist. (I would have not survived!) Also, there was still slavery. Some books I've read that were set in the 1800's are Jean Val Jean and Charlotte Doyle (reading now).
I'm not sure I've seen any movies based in the 1800's.

Life in the 1800's contained no air planes, cars, boats, internet and t.v. Life was a sacrifice for some people and many had to suffer back then. It was very hard to commuicate with people and you would have to read books to find iformation. Some books I've read that take place in the 1800's are: Jean Val Jean, Frankenstein, Dracula, Alice in wonder land and a Christmas carol. Some movies I watched include Oliver Twist and Peter Pan

The 1800's had no electronics, cars, airplanes, fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, microwaves, ovens, hair dryers, light bulbs.
They lived very basic lives and wore fancier clothing (dresses skirts button up shirts and top hats)
They had coal for stoves, trains and horse drawn carriages.
I have read les miserable and watched Anne of green gables. I am unaware of any other books or movies

To be honest, I've never really read or saw any movie about the 1800s but I believe that there would be no electricity (so no electonics either), and no airplanes or cars for traveling. In the 1800s, I know that the girls were only allowed to wear dresses and boys were the only ones allowed to wear pants and shirts. Also, back in those days they were supposed to act proper like and dress real fancy because that was how things were back then.

I didn't know girls could only wear dresses and boys only wore pants and shirts. That was some interesting information.

Absolutely no electricity. No Ipods, phones tv's computers. No forms of social media. You have to write a letter. Also the war of 1812. I think I have heard things about it. It was between Canada and USA or something

In the 1800s, there was no electricity, T.V, cars, or any of the luxurious products that we have in modern day. People had to live harshly and grow their own crops. Manners in the 1800s in England were also much more important than they are now. I also know that women in the 1800s were expected to cover up as much as possible in the England and that they usually wore long dresses.
I've briefly read Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations as well as Les Miserables. Movies that I've seen that are based on the 1800s are Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, and The Secret Garden.

in the 1800s, people weren't very modern yet. People didn't have many things that we do today. They travelled by carriages and horses or even barefoot. In that time period, they didn't have laptops, internet, cellphones or any modern technology that we have today.
I have never read any books, watched any movies, or heard about any books(except of the true confessions of Charotte Doyle)that took place in the 1800s.

In the early 1800s, light came mainly from candles and oil lamps, gas and then light came in in the mid 1800s. In 1800 dancing was really popular. They did dances such as waltzes, polkas etc. They were no cars, phones, cameras, planes, and all this amazing technology we have nowadays. It was a very simple life, very straightforward.

In the 1800's, they lived a very simple life. They didn't have cars, cellphones (but had type of telephone), internet (includes emails), ipods, ipads, and any other new/improved modern technology. They also dressed differently by wearing fancier clothing like high skirts, and fancy dresses. I have read Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, and a Christmas Carol, and have watched a Christmas Carol. I do know a few movies and books that take place in the 1800's but have not watched or read them such as Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and les miserables.
