I think Charlotte decided to run away from home because her dad was restricting her from talking to anyone, she couldn't go anywhere except downstairs to eat dinner, and she couldn't do anything she wanted to. Charlotte is not allowed to talk to Evelina or Albert about her journey on the Seahawk. In fact, she is not allowed to talk to anyone, because she is stuck in her room. The only person she actually talks to is Bridget, her nanny. And she is not even supposed to do that! If you were restricted from leaving your room unless you were told, how would you feel? Charlotte is not allowed to leave her room unless her father calls her down. Before that, her meals came to her room. She couldn't even go downstairs to eat! Charlotte also couldn't do anything she wanted to. She wasn't allowed to talk to anyone, she coudn't leave her room, she couldn't eat with anyone together and she couldn't do ANYTHING that she wanted to do. I think she made the right decision to leave her family. She is happy with being with Zachariah and the others on the ship, and she is not exactly happy with being isolated in her room. I think she fits in more with the people on the ship, and that's where she belongs. I think she made the right decision to leave, she is more happy on the ship, so that's the better life for her: on the sea.

I think Charlotte ran away because when she was on the ship she changed to much. When she got back to her old life she could not change back. When she reliesed that her Father did not approve of her actions and restricted her from seeing anyone or talking to anyone she disided to run away. In my opinion she had two lives at the moment there. She could have returned to her old life or be a captain of the Sea Hawk. I think she made the right move because if she would have stayed at home she would have had a terrible life trapped in her bedroom. So she chosed the free life on the Sea Hawk.

I think Charlotte ran away because
1) Her father was harassing her about not being ladylike on the ship and was a disgrace to the Doyle family. Mr. Doyle would not let Charlotte leave her room, showing they clearly did not want her around. Seeing this, she decided to run away to a place where she knew that people respected and cared for her.
2) Charlotte felt like she belonged on the ship. She had grown incredibly close to the crew members, and felt that she was still a part of them.
3) Charlotte did not want to be ladylike as her parents had wanted her to be. At first, she was sent to a School for Better Woman ( do not remember the exact name), and wanted nothing except to come across as a very ladylike and mature young lady. After sailing on the Seahawk, she realized that she truly did not want to be ladylike, and her father was making it seem like it was the most important thing in the world to be, when it was not.

Oops, pressed submit.
I think Charlotte made the correct decision by running away. She did not belong in a well-established household anymore. She realized sailing over seas was what she was meant to do, not to be ladylike and hide her wanting to have fun and be free of all the pressure of being formal.

I think that Charlotte Doyle runs away in chapter 22 because of her father. Mr. Doyle was not happy about Charlotte Doyle's diary because he did not believe about what Charlotte Doyle had wrote. I think that Charlotte Doyle had made the right choice because she was not allowed to do anything at all. Absolutely nothing.

I agree with you that Charlotte ran away because of her father, but is that the only reason? If you were upset with your dad, would you run away? This was definitely a contributing factor, but I think there were other things that impacted Charlotte's decision.

First, Charlotte decides to run away because she realizes she is not accepted into her own family the way she was accepted into the crew. When she decided to join the crew, they put her to a test and when she eventually passed it, they saw how committed she was to the crew and allowed her to join. After this, she was one of them. She worked like them and pulled her weight. The crew began to grow a liking for Charlotte and started to respect her as a girl doing (what was thought to be) a man’s work. They allowed her to be herself. Her family, although only wanting the best for her, did basically the exact opposite. She had to do this and that and never do this or that because it wasn’t lady – like or proper. Charlotte wasn’t allowed to be “Charlotte.” Charlotte’s parents were disappointed in her and even her little brother and sister looked down on her. Charlotte’s family wouldn’t accept her for who she was, but the crew did and that is one of the reasons why Charlotte chose them over her family. Second, I think she decides to run away because she knows she has real friends who care about her on the Seahawk. Her family has just moved back to their old home and she probably doesn’t have many friends as it has been so long. After experiencing her adventure on the Seahawk, she realized who her friends were: the crew. They cared for her and would always protect and encourage her. I think this was a big factor in her decision because if she knew no one on the ship, she might’ve not gone and her feelings about them leaving and her possibly never seeing them again drew her closer. Real friends are hard to find, but Charlotte found nine of them and she wasn’t about to let them go. Third, Charlotte had been exposed to a real life where she made her own decisions and she just knew she couldn’t go back to her old life. Charlotte had experienced a taste of freedom where she could be her and be in control of her own life. She could do what she wanted when she wanted and no one was there to scold her for being “un” lady – like. Now, Charlotte has every say and people can’t tell her what to do. Freedom can be addicting; once you get a taste of it, it’s all you want and you are willing to change your ways in order to get it. Fourth, I believe Charlotte had a gut feeling about running away and sailing with the crew on the Seahawk. Have you ever had that feeling where you just know, but can’t explain or verbalize how? Maybe Charlotte had one of those moments and just knew, no explanation, no reasons, just knew. It could’ve been like an instinct where she saw the ad in the paper and felt a rush of energy because she wanted to be sailing on that boat when it left. The concept of this gut feeling is something that cannot really be explained but can only be felt and experienced first – hand. I think Charlotte made the right decision for the reasons listed above. All of these reasons contribute to her being happy. The Seahawk was where she could be herself, it’s where she had friends, it’s where she had happiness. Charlotte found herself unhappy in her home and needed to make a change in her own life. One thing that is unfortunate about her decision was that she was leaving behind her family who really did love and care for her, even of it didn’t always seem like it. The worst part is that she didn’t leave a note or some sort of message telling them that she was safe and they shouldn’t worry because she was happy. I probably would’ve done something like that if I were her. Although a note would’ve been a good idea, I agree with her overall decision.

I think that Charlotte ran away because when she was on the ship she became so use to the crew members she worked with and saw a whole different point of view instead of just being a lady like girl and getting everyone else to do all the work for her. So when she did all the hard ship a man does and and learns the talk of sea man and the jobs of what everyone does. Charlotte found it much more fun then being a lady and making everyone doing all her work. Also when she got back to her old life and realized how limited to what she is able to do in her own house like have everyone do her own need for her and how dull or boring that life was. Then when her father read her journal and saw him burn it all up and said i despise what you have wrote and your actions of what you have done and all that and more blah blah blah so ya you get the point there so she saw what she has done on the ship her different personality was not accepted in her own house hold. thus concluding to run away to were all her personality freedom and love for what she does is accepted back aboard the very ship the Seahawk. I believe she has made the right decision cause i wold not want to live in a house i was not accepted for who I really was and could not show my true colors or even do the things i like or carry out my own errands with out having someone fowling me around and have every thing done by them. So I do think that running away to where i was accepted and where i was not mad e fun of for who she is was the right desision to make.

1. She missed how much freedom she had on the sea.
2. Her father burnt her diary full of the memories and was making her do a lot of schooling
3. She thought the crew was a more supportive family
When i first read the ending I hated it. I thought she made a horrible mistake. i hated it because, she boarded the ship trying to get back to her family in america. she went through almost two murders, a test up the royal yard, a trial where she was accused of murder and she got rid of the captain all to get to america. She had the luxury of going home to a brand new big house, 2 maids, new room, new clothes, good food and she decides to throw it all away. She had a good life set out for her. She could have got a good education, high scale job, married rich and have children of her own.
Now that i think about her decision more carefully i realize it wasn't that bad. if she likes the sea than she can still go back for a few more voyages until she's older. once she's old enough to care for herself she can go anywhere she likes and start a life.

The reasons why I feel that Charlotte ran away back to the ship was because she did not have the freedom to do what she like at home because her father made her stay in her bedroom for a long time. Charlotte's father even burnt up her diary in which she had wrote everything that happened on the ship because she had mentioned terrible things about Captain Jaggery and that it was not appropriate for her to write things like that in her book even though they were all true. The last reason that I think Charlotte ran away was because, she was allowed to help out and do things on her own where people treated her like one of them and did not talk to her with so much formality, unlike people at her house. She was allowed to what she wanted to do without being afraid of what other people would think because she was a girl and was not acting in a ladylike way. I think that Charlotte made the correct choice because she has got the freedom to some of the things that she wants to do or likes to do and she enjoyed being on the ship because she wanted to be there, not because someone her to be there. She would have a better time with the crew because they tend to listen to her and she felt at home with them on the Seahawk.

Charlotte Doyle decided to run away from her family. I believe she did this, because her family did not accept her for the person she had become. The family did not like how she became like "one of the crew." I think she also ran away, because I think she felt like she gained more freedom on the Seahawk and at her own house she always had to obey the rules. Finally, I think Charlotte ran away from home, because (as Sherlock) already said, Charlotte was not allowed to go anywhere. I think she made the right decision of leaving her family, because she was accepted by the crew, she had freedom, and she could go where she wanted on the Seahawk.
