Everything has to be in rhythm. Like when the kids were playing in the street. When the ball dropped, the skipping rope hit the ground. They had to come inside when their parents told us to. Unlike us, we say "just 5 more minutes". They also have to follow everything the government says while we have options.

Everything on Camazotz is in rhythm. Balls drop at the same time, skipping ropes hit the cement at the same time, mothers all stepped outside at the same time, kids go inside at the same time, and they move at the same time. With the paper boy, the papers hit the door on the same spot and make the same sound. And there's a manual that the citizens follow that came from the CENTRAL central, or something. They think that if you're not perfect or not on rhythm, it's an aberration or a mistake. It seems as if the people on the planet are trying to mock or disguise themselves as humans and they think the way they're acting is normal. They could be robots and it's all a trap too.

As both Luigi and Sherlock have said, the main idea is rhythm. When the crew was walking down the road, all the kids were either skipping ropes or dropping bouncy balls all simultaneously. If you did something out of beat, you would be considered an "aberration". The government would come to your house and hurt you and your family. Their government is different than Canada's because they get told what to do, but we have freedom to do what we want as long as it's obeying the law.

On Camazotz everything happens in a certain rhythm at a certain time. Such as the kids playing outside and then all their moms come outside at the same time to call them inside. On Camazotz everyone is a human but do not act like one. They all act as if they are controlled which they are by something called IT. Also if you happen to not do something in a rhythm it is called a aberration and you are taken to Central Central and kept their until they are in rhythm again. Basically they cannot do anything else besides what they are made to do unlike us out of rhythm. They also have transparent doors and windows which they could get through by the atoms rearranging.

On Camazotz, everything is done in rhythm. All the balls are bounced at the exact same time, all the skipping ropes hit the ground at the same time the balls bounce. All the moms open the door at the same time to call their children inside. If something happen which was out of rhythm, it would be called a abberation and the child or mother would be disciplined. Also in Camazotz the children have to listen to their mothers when they are called inside or else they would face a consequence. For us, we always just say 5 more minutes or 10 more minutes and get more time like that.

Life on Camazotz is very different than life on Earth. There are the main differences, such as everything is in rhythm and being different is frowned upon, but there are also smaller, less important, differences as well. On Camazotz, when someone is embarrassed, their face goes white, like the woman at the door and the paper boy, while on Earth, in this situation, our faces go red because we are blushing. Also, nothing is manual as everything is mechanized, unlike on Earth where we still have manual operators. The man sitting on the bench in CENTRAL Central Intelligence said Meg, Charles and Calvin had to present their papers to the A machine and that he was running a number-one spelling machine on the second grade level. Lastly, whatever is one person's business is everyone else's business as well, like when the three of them went to go return the ball and the woman opened the door, and so did all the other residents in all the other houses. Here, we tend to mind our own business more. Although this is all true, I do believe that the amount of difference between these two planets will decrease as time goes on. We are developing new technologies and the need for manual labour won't be as necessary. Technology has already increased since this book was written in 1962. Our individual lives are becoming more public as well with social media. People are in our business because we put our business out there for them to see and this will happen more so as time goes on and new ways to publicize our lives develop. To summarize, differences between Camazotz and Earth now may not be differences in the far future.

This is a very insightful answer. Your premise that technology is making our world more like Camazotz is chilling and thought-provoking.
Life on Camazozts compared to earth is a whole diffrent thing from earth. In Camazotzs they believe to have every thing very organized by IT and things run in a very rythmic way as the kids are all playing in a rythem. Also this IT is very demanding unlike earths very nicer rule. Also if you don't obey this Its comand you might find your self getting a very harsh punishment!!

these are the differences:
1) everything in camazotz has to be in rhythm.
2) they have to listen to their parents and go inside right when they clap and they must go inside at the same time.
3) if anything was out of rhythm the person who is out of rhythm willl be disciplined.
4) everyone is human but they act like robots
5)They must obey the IT's every command or they would get beaten while we have more freedom.

Some of the differences would include:
-No democracy, people aren't able to chose or have a say in activities
-Having total unison and rythm is a law in camazotz
-Death is the cure for diseases according to the red eyed man on camazotz
-There are no wars or fights in camazotz and everything must be peaceful
-those who break the cycle of unison will be punished and simultaneously be taught how to be in unison.

I like how you said that there is no democracy and no say in anything. IT is the one who makes the laws and decides what is right and wrong. The citizens of Camazotz are all the same and follow IT. It is a good point and is not so obvious.

Life on planet Camazotz is different than life on Earth because on planet Camazotz everything is the same and boring. You only got to go outside for a certain amount of time and at a certain time. Everybody acts like they are in some sort of trance. You must obey IT or you will get punished or you will get killed.

Everything is in rhythm on this planet and they think that if you make a mistake or mess up that you are not "processed" and need to be processed to be just like everyone else.

Everything that anyone does is done in the same way and at the same time. Everyone(depending on age and gender) does and lives the same life. There is no crime and there is one head leader who controls everyone (IT). People expect you to know the rules and what the punishments are. They aren't used to new people and aren't supposed to go off track and as questions. When they make mistakes the go white and leave the situation. They have a leader who is trying to get Charles, meg and Calvin to fall into his trap like all the other citizens. The idea of prison is a room filled with darkness. Every time something out of proportion happens it seems to have to go to the red eye man. They use cards..? " I shall have to ask for a requisition for more A-21 cards."
There are slots to place the cards. They can rearrange atoms and change the figure of shapes to their liking.
I find the way camaztoz is run is quite scary and cruel. No one had individuality and the planet is run by a dictator.

4)people cant show their smartness, everyone has the same IQ
5)there arent any criminals
6) People cant express their ideas or thoughts
7)making mistakes could cost yo your life

Of course, all of the people in Camazotz are in rhythm. They don't have to pay any attention to where they are going because they are already have a schedule programmed in them. The people of Camazotz remind me of the robots in the spy kids movie because they are doing what they are told to do and you can't interfere with that. On earth, everyone is unique. We act differently and look differently, but in Camazotz there is a sameness to everyone personality wise. When Charles asked who is in authority, the man told him to show his papers to the A Machine and when Charles talked back the man said he wants to run the risk of reprocessing himself. This means that the people of Camazotz don't have a leader that they can look up to and trust.

I like the your point of having a leader to look up to and trust. It expands on Chuck E Muckle's point about the absence of democracy on Camazotz.

In Camazotz everything is in unison and rhythm. Every kid drops the ball at the same time and the kids skipping ropes will hit the ground at the same time. There nothing is out of place and if it is it will be fixed. IN Camazotz no one is allowed to have a freedom of speech, express themselves and even be unique. If something is out of place it will be punished by IT.

Yes like everybody said, rhythm is the main factor. But also, everybody's personality and actions are the same. On earth everybody has there own thing going on and nobody has the same exact personality as others. Nobody as any freedom whatsoever, and everybody is controlled by some dictator called IT. I completely think its unfair. In camazots everybody gets the same consquense, an electric shock. If you think about it a mistake can kill you. Especially if you don't understand what you are doing wrong. On earth you are given chances and you are explained what you have done wrong. Here on earth there are many different punishments for different issues. The people living in camazots also don't have a say in anything they desire or deserve. It is never a democracy. Also, if you get sick or get weak and old you are killed. On earth you are treated and taken good care of. If I were to choose between these to worlds I would choose earth because of these reasons.

Your answer made me think of Hamurabi's code in Babylon. His laws were black and white. He didn't care about the circumstances of the crime. Our legal system has evolved a lot since then. IT's approach is unfair and cruel because it is way too simplistic. It doesn't take into account the multitude of variables that are a part of being human.

Earth- we live with individuality, freedom, and privacy
Camazotz- live in rhythm and everyone has to be the same
Camazotz- IT controls everyone through hypnotism/brainwash
Earth- live with governments (democracy,monarchy)
Camazotz- no dangers, criminals, criminal activity
Earth- criminals, dangers, laws, rules and consequences
Camazotz- if you are different or you make a mistake (like the little boy dropping the ball) IT will try to fix you and put you back into rhythm with the rest of the people and if that doesn't work it will just put you to "sleep"
Earth- people are accepted even if they make mistake, get many chances, are not killed for making mistake just given punishment
